A coarse intrusive flint or granules rich in quartz and feldspar; It is the most common plutonic rock of the Earth's crust, formed by cooling magma (melting silicate) to a depth. The main constituent of granite is feldspar. Both feldspar plagioclase and alkaline feldspar have a lot in it, and their relative abundance provides the basis for granite grading. In most granite, the predominance relative to secondary feldspars is less than two. Rocks containing less than 20 percent quartz are almost never named granite and rocks contain more than 20 percent (by volume) of darkness, or ferromagnesian, a mineral also rarely referred to as granite.
